What are we proposing?

The Council is proposing to introduce a fast 22kW Electric Vehicle Charge Point and an accommodating bay in several locations. The proposed EVCP locations have been identified in response to residents’ requests and are also determined by the suitability of the on-street space. The proposed EVCP locations have been reviewed and found suitable for the installation of electric vehicle charge points to meet current and future demand by Highways Engineers, Parking and Traffic Enforcement Offers and Electrical Engineers.

Why make the changes?

The Council has committed to deliver 1,000 Electric Vehicle Charge Points across the borough by 2026 and has a rollout plan to ensure those are delivered to meet resident needs and demands. The installation of these charge points will help facilitate the move to electric vehicles and reduce transport emissions to meet national and local carbon net zero goals.

The addition of a bay solely for Electric Vehicle charging will guarantee that the space is reserved for those that need to charge their car for unimpeded access. Wherever feasible, we have opted for locations situated alongside flank walls to minimise the inconvenience to non-electric vehicle users.

What happens next?

The Council are carrying out statutory Section 17 and Traffic Management Order consultations to install EV charge point and introduce the bay which will accommodate the charge point. A Traffic Management Order and Section 17 notice has been posted up on site.

Following the completion of the statutory consultation and thorough consideration of all representations, should the Council grant approval for installation, the Charge Point Operator Believ will install and maintain the charge point which will increase opportunities for on-street Electric Vehicle charging in your area.
