Loxford Lane Area: Permit Parking Consultation
The Council has received a local petition requesting that new permit parking controls are introduced in Medway Close. This is in response to concerns over non-residential parking taking place in the area, which can make it harder for local residents to park close to their properties. It is likely that these parking issues may also be affecting other nearby uncontrolled roads.
HAVE YOUR SAY
We are consulting you to see whether you would support new permit parking controls in your area to make parking easier for local residents. We are also looking to support visitor parking, such as those using local shops, through the provision of short stay parking bays. A decision will be made based on the responses received to this consultation. It is important that you have your say. Please carefully read the information in this leaflet before responding to this consultation.
Please complete the online parking questionnaire at the bottom of this page.
HOW DOES PERMIT PARKING WORK?
In a Permit Parking Area, parking is protected for local permit holders only. Only those that live or work inside the controlled area would be eligible to apply for permits. A permit can be used to park in any of the permit controlled roads in the zone that the permit was issued for.
The plan available on this web page shows the proposed controls as well as the area being consulted (this is the area that would be able to apply for permits under a future permit scheme). Depending on the results of this consultation, it is possible that only part of this area may proceed to the next stage of the consultation process. Alternatively, other roads outside of the consultation area may also be considered for inclusion if there is evidence of local support, for example, to resolve any concerns over the displacement of parking from where new controls are introduced (those residents would need to submit a signed petition as evidence of their support).
It is intended that these permit controls would form an extension to the existing Ilford Zone C permit parking area, with controls applying at all times (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). However if you would prefer any alternative days or times, this can be specified when completing the online questionnaire.
Permit parking controls would apply when parked on the public highway, including any parking areas managed by the Councils Housing team (as shown on the plan on this web page). You would not need to display a permit when parked on your driveway or when parked on any other private land.
In order to support visitors, for example those using local businesses or recreational facilities, bays would be provided on Loxford Lane for both permit holders and pay by phone users. Visitors would be able to benefit from one hour of parking FREE of charge, with longer stays up to 2 hours available for a small charge. Permit holders would be able to use these bays at any time for as long as needed.
Where any new parking controls are agreed from this exercise, a further consultation would be held over the proposed design inviting any objections, representations or other comments before a final decision is reached.
