Redbridge Council has issued an update on the Wanstead Leisure Centre and school redevelopment project following confirmation that the main contractor, Jerram Falkus, has entered administration.
Wanstead Leisure Centre & School Redevelopment – project update
The construction of an exciting new building, which will extend both Wanstead High School and Wanstead Leisure Centre, is now entering its final stages.
As part of the council’s wider plan for regeneration and growth in the area, the £20m development spans three blocks and includes a 4,200‑square‑metre building housing four new classrooms, a dining hall and a commercial kitchen.
The existing leisure centre is also being expanded to include a new state‑of‑the‑art 25‑metre swimming pool, dance studios, a new reception area and accessible changing rooms for all users.
The extension to the leisure centre and school will include:
A new 25‑metre swimming pool
Four additional classrooms
An extended playground
Dance studios
A commercial kitchen
A new reception area
Accessible changing rooms
