Valentines Lido
Lido update - January 2026
We are pleased that we have completed the first phase of the lido project - this has involved carrying out preparatory groundworks. With this work complete, we will now remove the heras fencing and compound at the site.
In terms of next stages, you may be aware that three of our much-loved facilities – Kenneth More Theatre, Fullwell Cross leisure centre, and South Woodford library and gym - require major refurbishment during 2026.
As a result, our immediate attention and our resources and funding must be focused on these facilities and carrying out the essential repairs and maintenance they need to be reopened. This means that the council has had to adjust its budget to fund these substantial works and use money that was previously set aside for the lido.
The lido remains a key project, and so whilst the works takes place to our three existing facilities, officers will also be working on how we take forward the lido project as soon as possible as part of wider improvements to our parks, open spaces and leisure facilities.
This is about making responsible choices that reflect what residents value most right now.
Keep up to date on our investment projects on our website.
Valentines park lido will provide families and local people with a new leisure facility to enjoy in the heart of the borough.
With the project having received full planning approval, the plan is for the new lido to be built close to the original in the beautiful historic Valentine's park. We expect to utilise the latest technology to ensure the lido is sustainable and cost efficient to run, and anticipate that, once open, the lido will generate income to cover its costs.
The new lido will include the following facilities:
- 25 metre 6 lane swimming pool
- Spa pool
- Steam room
- Plunge pool
- Treatment rooms
- Changing facilities
- Children's splash pad
- Café
- Gym
- Dance / exercise studio
- Meeting room
- Outdoor recreation / picnic area
- Car parking
