Redbridge Council, in cooperation with the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust and Vision RCL, is working to improve pedestrian and cycle access to and within Fairlop Waters Country Park. As part of the wider masterplan for the park, improvements to wayfinding and to the amenities at the southern entrance are being developed.

To facilitate sustainable modes of travel to the park, the Council is proposing to widen the footway along Station Road. It is expected that this will improve pedestrian access for those in the local area, as well as those travelling to the park by public transport.

What is being proposed?

The Council is proposing to extend the footway on the southern side of Station Road to approximately 3 meters wide along the stretch of road. Build outs on the junction with Carlton Drive and by the entrance to Barkingside depot and Redbridge Council offices will also improve pedestrian access along Station Road.

Extending the width of the footway will require the removal of the twelve existing paid parking spaces along Station Road. This is to ensure that the carriageway is wide enough for vehicles to pass through. Double-yellow lines will be implemented along the southern kerbside, in order to prevent obstruction to the carriageway. Double-yellow lines will also be extended into new vehicle passing places along the road, as well as opposite the entrance to the Barkingside depot.

As it is expected that people will drive to the park, this consultation includes a proposal to introduce a new disabled parking bay next to the entrance, as well as pay-by-phone space for two vehicles.

Existing parking arrangements within the various properties along Station Road will be unaffected.
