The School Streets project is a scheme operating around some Redbridge schools to assist in delivering a safer, cleaner, and healthier borough. The scheme prevents non-residential vehicles from entering the School Street zones around schools, during start and finish times. Results of this scheme has shown that they have been successful at reducing traffic around school areas, thus making the area safer and encouraging children to walk and cycle to school. We currently have 21 schools participating in the borough of Redbridge. The School Streets scheme has been developed off the back of the Child Friendly Redbridge programme, which started in 2019. Redbridge Council is currently working with UNICEF UK to become a recognised Child Friendly City or Community.
