The Council is proposing to introduce traffic signals at the junction of High Road, Woodford Green with Epping New Road.
WHAT ARE WE PROPOSING?
We are proposing to install new traffic signals controlling all movements and a pedestrian crossing point at the junction of High Rd, Woodford Green with Epping New Road. It is also proposed to incorporate advance stop lines for cyclists and the introduction of a kerb build-out and raised entry treatment (75mm high) at High Road, Woodford Green junction with The Dell.
The Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Services and Transport for London have been consulted on the proposals
WHY MAKE CHANGES?
Surveys undertaken on High Road, Woodford Green junction with Epping New Road have demonstrated that there is a high level of pedestrian activity at this location. The junction is located adjacent to Bancroft’s School in Woodford Green, a large independent school serving pupils from ages 7 to 18. There are also a number of other schools located in close proximity to the junction. These schools attract a high number of pupils, staff, and visitors throughout the day with particularly significant pedestrian and vehicle movements during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up periods.
The intention of the proposals is to reduce vehicular conflict at the junction and reduce the occurrence of collisions, as well as assisting pedestrians to cross the road safely and improve road safety for all road users, particularly the vulnerable.
There have been numerous collisions resulting in injuries, including 6 slight injuries and 1 involving serious injuries, in the latest three years for which data is available (between 7 October 2021 and 18 September 2024).
