The Council is proposing to introduce road safety improvements in the Goodmayes area. The scheme is being proposed as the initial phase to introducing a road safety zone in an area bounded by Green Lane, Goodmayes Lane, Longbridge Road and South Park Drive.
We are proposing to introduce a 20mph zone including associated traffic calming in the form of speed humps on Audley Gardens, Oakwood Gardens, Leamington Gardens, Charlbury Gardens, Lynford Gardens, Nutfield Gardens, Talbot Gardens, Woodstock Gardens, Arundel Gardens, Cardigan Gardens and Water Lane (between Green Lane and Breamore Road) as shown on the Consultation Plan. We are intending to install 75mm high (3 inch) sinusoidal speed humps on these roads. Sinusoidal speed humps are similar to round-top speed humps but with a shallower initial rise which is a more beneficial profile for cyclists. The proposals also include reducing the speed limit on these roads to 20mph. We propose that the 20mph zone will also cover Breamore Road (which currently has traffic calming measures installed).
The Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Services and Transport for London are being consulted on the proposals.
Why make changes?
The main objective of the proposed scheme is to make this area safer for all road users. The proposed scheme will help reduce vehicular speeds, reduce the occurrence of collisions and improve road safety in the area.
Lowering traffic speeds also makes our streets less polluted, and better and safer places to walk and cycle.
