Introduction

Are you interested in finding out more about the Gants Hill area? London Borough of Redbridge is running a six month community research project in partnership with UCL and local residents, to explore the strengths, aspirations and priorities of the area. The findings will shape activities for the area as part of the early stages of planning for the Gants Hill Hub.

There are lots of ways to volunteer, and it is up to you which parts of the project you get involved in and how much time you want to commit. Here are some of the options:

  • co-designing the research project with UCL and London Borough of Redbridge, including design of the research activities
  • carrying out research activities
  • analysing data from the research and producing findings + recommendations
  • showcasing findings to local networks and the wider community
  • supporting recommendations, e.g. leading on community projects

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for people with different experiences of living, working or studying in Gants Hill. You may have recently moved to the area, or have lived in the area your whole life – everyone has a unique perspective.

This opportunity is open to everyone, including young people and those who have not taken part in an activity like this before. You do not need to have any previous experience of research: just your passion for Gants Hill, curiosity to find out more and commitment to the project.

What will you gain?

Depending on which area you choose to get involved in, you can gain a range of skills and experiences which will be useful for the project and your wider community:

  • learning in research techniques from world-leading university UCL
  • a brilliant opportunity to meet others living in your community
  • to help deepen our insights into the Gants Hill area
  • an opportunity to work in partnership with London Borough of Redbridge and UCL to shape the research
  • following the research, there may be opportunities to take forward the research findings and recommendations

What we ask of you

Depending on what most interests you, we ask that you:

  • bring your perspective to the design of the research project
  • join sessions with UCL and the Council to support the delivery of research activities
  • connect with your local networks to carry out the research and share the findings
  • agree how much time you can commit a month, which will vary on the basis of individual availability but should be no more than 6 hours
  • work collaboratively with the Council, UCL and local residents

What you can expect from us

  • be part of key decision-making through the process to shape the project
  • provide support and training to deliver the research activities agreed
  • provide group support in monthly check-ins with the team
  • provide an online forum to discuss findings, insights and reflections with other volunteers
  • one to one support if needed, including during the application process
