Redbridge Council is part of the Care Leaver Covenant programme, which is a national inclusion programme that supports care leavers aged 16-25 to live independently by creating meaningful opportunities in five key areas:
Independent Living.
Education, Employment & Training.
Safety & Security.
Mental & Physical Health.
Finance.
As part of this, we are organising an event on 24th April that gives our care leavers the opportunity to tell us what we as Redbridge Council can do to better support our children. This will involve asking council directors to commit to actions that positively impact care leavers' lives.
A council director manages all the teams within one department of the council; for example, Housing, Education, Transport, Benefits or Planning and Regeneration. They make decisions and talk to other organisations to get things done.
Actions that care leavers have asked other councils for include:
access to training flats and a life-skills toolkit to support independent living
financial education courses
access to DIY, redecoration, gardening and plumbing support
free counselling and drop-in health sessions
A small group of care leavers will come to the event and share their thoughts in person. We would like to invite you to complete this survey to share anything else that you think would have been helpful for you a few years ago when you first left care, or that you would still find helpful now.
