The Council is proposing to introduce road safety improvements on Valentines Road and Ingleby Road.
We are proposing to install traffic calming in the form of speed humps on Valentines Road and Ingleby Road as shown on the Valentines Road Consultation Plan and Ingleby Road Consultation Plan. We are intending to install 75mm - 85mm high (3 inch) speed humps on this road with a shallow initial rise which is a more beneficial for cyclists.
The Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Services and Transport for London are being consulted on the proposals.
Why make changes?
The main objective of the proposed scheme is to make this area safer for all road users. The road safety measures will help reduce vehicular speeds, improve driver awareness, improve crossing conditions for pedestrians and improve road safety in the area.
Traffic surveys undertaken on Valentines Road and Ingleby Road have demonstrated that vehicle speeds are often in excess of the 20 mph speed limit. 85%ile traffic speeds (the speed at which 85% of vehicles are travelling at or below - a commonly used variable in traffic/highway engineering and speed enforcement) of 29 mph on Ingleby Road and 30 mph on Valentines Road have been recorded.
Lowering traffic speeds also makes our streets less polluted, and better and safer places to walk and cycle.
