The Healthy Redbridge bus is delivering lifesaving health checks in Redbridge, thanks to an initiative led by the Redbridge Borough Partnership. After the successes of our COVID bus, we have converted a new vehicle with modifications that allow us to deliver services such as health checks, immunisations, and sexual health and substance misuse interventions.

The mobile bus allows us to deliver vital health interventions in cultural, religious and community sites across the borough. There is already a strong network of local community sites to work with and a tried and tested process for delivery of services across the system in terms of clinical input and logistics.

Please use the booking form on the right to register your interest in using the Healthy Redbridge Bus, and someone from the team will be in touch.

The ‘Know Your Numbers’ campaign is one of the UK’s biggest blood pressure testing and awareness events and takes place every year led by the charity Blood Pressure UK.

The Redbridge Borough Partnership will be hosting a number of events where we are encouraging residents, especially those over the age of 40, to get to know their numbers.

High blood pressure, which rarely has noticeable symptoms, increases your risk of heart attack or stroke if left untreated, which is why knowing your numbers could save your life.

    • Around 41,000 people in Redbridge have been diagnosed with high blood pressure
    • Around 22,000 people are living with heart and circulatory diseases in Redbridge
    • Heart and circulatory diseases kill more than 1 in 5 people in Redbridge

Residents can get their blood pressure tested and receive more information on cardiovascular disease and lifestyle changes they can make to help prevent this at one of our mobile clinics.

Partners are able to request a mobile clinic to support any local events they are hosting.

The mobile bus clinic delivered services from the driveway of Clayhall Group Practice on a Saturday in June for patients who walked in after seeing a banner promoting it. Services offered included NHS health checks; cancer screening information; Diabetes prevention advice; advice on stopping smoking; shingles vaccinations and health promotions.

The mobile health check service received overwhelming positive feedback from all patients who attended with feedback including them feeling like the clinicians actively listened, treated them with dignity and involved them in shared decision making. Patients also felt they were better able to understand their condition and care.

The Health Bus has been instrumental in facilitating outreach sessions at Gants Hill and a huge success with regards to the level of engagement that has taken place with local residents, young people and vulnerable adults. These sessions have enabled us to promote the support of the services and to provide harm reduction advice.

Collectively, Via Staff have provided onsite support in the following areas:

    • Trained and handed out naloxone kits
    • Signed up young people and vulnerable adults to the C-Card registration scheme (Bewize)
    • STI screening kits have been available for collection
    • Access to condom contraception and sexual health advice and information
    • Engagement with active service users
    • Engagement with rough sleepers – signposting and referring to SHP and the Welcome Centre for further support
    • On foot outreach - covering several hot spot areas in and around the ward (left service cards and other resources of support)
    • Engagement with several groups of families and young people
    • Gained useful intel regarding areas of need
    • Providing information leaflets, cards, useful contacts

In addition, Via Redbridge Young People's Service and Stop Smoking Service attended this year's Disability Awareness Festival on 9th Aug (see photo's attached) to promote health and wellbeing and to support the theme of #ThisAbility. This was an opportunity for us to share the work we do with professionals, local residents, young people and families who are passionately interested in finding out what support is available to them in Redbridge.
