Central Government require all local authorities to introduce a separate food waste collection service by 2026 so that uneaten food can be recycled. This is part of the ‘Simpler Recycling’ reforms, which also outline other changes to take waste management into its next phase in the UK. We are reviewing howto improve our waste services in Redbridge in line with these requirements for the benefit of residents, and forour local environment.
In Redbridge,up to 40% of the average wheelie bin or black sack is food. Wasted food costs households money and carries a significant carbon impact.
