Welcome to our virtual space providing news and updates about our youth ambassador workshops and projects!
The Child Friendly Redbridge Youth Ambassadors are a group of young people selected from schools across Redbridge who come together fortnightly to discuss issues facing young people in Redbridge, develop skills to challenge decision-makers and manage projects to raise awareness of issues and advocate for young people in the borough.
Child Friendly Communities is a UNICEF UK programme that works with councils to put children’s rights into practice. The programme aims to create communities in the UK where all children –whether they are living in care, using a children’s centre, or simply visiting their local library –have a meaningful say in, and truly benefit from, the local decisions, services and spaces that shape their lives. You can find out more about the Child-Friendly Redbridge Programme and people involved here.

At this session, we discussed the results of the Make Your Mark 2024 Youth Parliament vote, and further discussed our surprise at 'culture, media and sport' being voted the topic that most affects young people across the UK.
Ambassadors also reflected on the recent youth elections, especially the campaign process and aspects that they found particularly easy or difficult. We also had a think about developments that could be put in place next year, such as enabling campaign videos and a more refined voting process.
Finally, we had some really exciting conversations around comms from CFR ambassadors and the Council. Some potential plans include a podcast, refreshed social media pages and a youth logo competition… watch this space!

As part of UNICEF World Children's Day 2023, our Child Friendly Youth Ambassadors took the opportunity to discuss the question 'Why is it so important that decision makers listen to children and young people’s voices?'.
They discussed everything from politics and climate change to mental health and freedom of speech. As you can see from the photos below, they had some insightful conversations, and made wonderful mindmaps too!

At our most recent workshop we discussed vaping, an issue that the youth ambassadors have raised as important for them to raise awareness about and signpost services that will help young people in Redbridge to understand why people vape, and what support exists for young people who might want to quit. See some of their work below
Let us know any of your thoughts and comments on their mind-mapping!
