Redbridge young people leading the way to a sustainable future in the capital

The Neighbourhood Street Scene team ran a borough-wide Youth Climate Essay Competition for secondary school pupils on “How to reduce emissions in Redbridge.” The aim was to capture young people’s ideas and ensure their voices shape our next Climate Strategy.

The team received an astounding 59 entries from 11 secondary schools, with students sharing creative, practical solutions. The team were blown away by the quantity and quality of entries - our young people are amazing!

Accompanied by Cllr Jo Blackman, Laki Begum took the 12 winners to City Hall for an award ceremony hosted by Mete Coban MBE, Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy who had loved his visit to our Youth Eco Skills Festival 2024 in Redbridge Town Hall last November and now has ideas for his own London wide event...

“It was so lovely to bring these amazing students to meet the Deputy Mayor anddiscuss their great ideas. It's great to know that we have inspired the Deputy Mayorto organise a London wide youth summit! He was very complementary about ourwork engaging young people”. Cllr Jo Blackman
