It is important that local businesses are supported through unobstructed access into the town centre, while being mindful of the loading needs of local businesses and ensuring that visitors have somewhere to park.

Following earlier public consultation, Red Route parking controls are being extended along Cranbrook Road (to the junction with Northbrook Road), through Ilford town centre and along the southern part of Ley Street.

To make it easier for visitors to shop locally and support local businesses, 114 new parking spaces will be created offering pay by phone parking (this is in addition to existing visitor parking bays), together with 23 new loading bays (in addition to existing loading bays).

Full plans covering all the new parking controls being introduced along the full Red Route extension can be viewed on this webpage.

FEEDBACK

The new Red Route controls are being trialled on an experimental basis for up to 18 months. This will provide an opportunity to see how the new parking controls are working before deciding whether the controls should continue on a permanent basis. Throughout the experimental period, the parking controls will remain subject to change as we continue to make any further improvements with the aim of:

  • improving traffic flows
  • making it easier to park
  • supporting the loading needs of local businesses
  • making our roads safer to use

If you would like to submit any feedback, or make any formal objections or other representations to the new parking controls, please complete the questionnaire available through this webpage by Sunday 6 September 2026.

Any feedback received will be fully considered when deciding whether the new experimental parking controls should be continued on a permanent basis. This decision will only be taken after the Red Route controls have been in operation for at least 6 months to allow the new controls to be fully tested and reviewed.

Thank you for reading this information.
