Gants Hill: Proposed Red Route Extension
The Council is reviewing parking controls on some routes around Gants Hill to ensure that these roads remain accessible for all users. This aligns with the new SL12 Superloop express bus service that launches in September, following an orbital route that includes part of Cranbrook Road, Bramley Crescent and Perth Road.
To ensure this route is kept clear of obstruction, we are proposing an extension of the existing Red Route (currently in operation on the A12) to other adjacent roads. As part of these proposals, all existing parking bays would be retained to help support visitors, together with new loading bays to help support local businesses and home deliveries.

PROPOSED RED LINES (DOUBLE OR SINGLE)
New red lines (no stopping restrictions) are proposed in your area to help maintain and improve the free flow of traffic. Double red lines operate at all times. They are mainly proposed in busy or narrow parts of a road or where there is a particular road safety need.
Single red lines would only operate for part of the day, from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Sunday. Parking would be allowed on single red lines outside of their times of operation.
On double or single red lines (during the controlled times), vehicles would be prohibited from stopping unless in an emergency. Exemptions would apply for licenced taxis, for recognised companies delivering or collecting postal items, or vehicles displaying a blue badge when they are picking up or setting down passengers.
PROPOSED LOADING BAYS
In order to support loading activities for local businesses, as well as home deliveries for local residents, new goods vehicle loading bays would be introduced throughout the area.
These bays would operate from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Sunday, during which time the bays may only be used by goods vehicles (this is where the vehicle has been purposely constructed for the carriage of goods and is registered as such with the DVLA).
Any vehicle may park in the loading bay outside of the operating hours.
When using the proposed loading bays, goods vehicles must be seen to be actively loading and follow a maximum stay of 30 minutes. After departing the loading bay, the same vehicle would need to wait a minimum of one hour before returning to give other goods vehicles an opportunity to use that bay.
PROPOSED VISITOR PARKING
It is proposed that existing pay by phone parking bays along the new Red Route would operate from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Sunday (except where bus lane times apply). This would bring these controls in-line with the operating times of the proposed single red lines. There would not be any change to the existing parking tariff in pay by phone bays arising from these proposals.
