We are holding this consultation over the proposed introduction of new motorcycle parking bays. This follows traffic surveys held during 2025 which identify demand for motorcycle parking in these locations.

The plans available through this webpage show the proposed motorcycle parking bays.

Parking in the proposed motorcycle bays would be FREE of charge for motorcycles, with a maximum stay of 1 hour and no return within 10 minutes.

BENEFITS OF MOTORCYCLE BAYS

Increased Parking Availability: Encouraging motorcycles to park in dedicated motorcycle parking bays helps to keep other surrounding visitor parking bays free for car users.

Reduction in Illegal or Inconvenient Parking: Motorcycle bays help to keep public spaces clear and safe for pedestrians by reducing the likelihood of motorcycles being parked on pavements or in unsafe areas.

Reduced Traffic Congestion: Supporting the use of motorcycles (which are relatively small and manoeuvrable) helps reduce traffic congestion on local roads.

Environmental Benefits: Motorcycles generally consume less fuel and tend to be less polluting.

Safety Improvements: Motorcycles parked between cars can be difficult to see, leading to potential collisions.

Support for Local Economy: Making it easier for motorcycles to park legally helps to support local business activity, particularly where businesses rely on motorcycles for frequent home deliveries.

Promotion of a Progressive, Motorcycle-Friendly Community: By providing dedicated motorcycle parking, a culture of inclusivity is promoted across different road users.
