Wanstead: Permit Parking Consultation
Following an earlier parking consultation, some roads in Wanstead are now being taken forward to the next stage of the consultation process with any objections or other representations being invited.
The plan available through this webpage provides an overview of where new parking controls would apply.
How would permit parking work?
Signs would be displayed at all entry points into the extended Wanstead Zone D permit parking area to indicate that parking is for local permit holders only. Smaller parking signs would be displayed on lamp posts throughout the permit parking area as a reminder to drivers.
Most new permit controls would apply from 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, however please refer to the plan available through this webpage for further information.
There are usually no single yellow lines or permit bays marked in the controlled area, any existing markings would typically be removed to accommodate the new permit controls. This means that permit holders would be free to choose their own parking place, as long as this does not cause obstruction. This maximises the amount of parking space available to local permit holders as it means households can park in front of their own dropped kerb when displaying a valid permit. It also reduces the visual impact that road markings can have on the street-scene.
All existing double yellows lines would remain and further double yellow lines would be provided at all local junctions (including those just outside of the permit parking area) on road safety and accessibility grounds.
In order to support visitors, on-street pay by phone parking bays would be provided allowing one hour of parking FREE of charge, with longer stays possible for a small charge. Some of these bays could be used by permit holders for as long as needed. Those bays closest to the High Street would also apply on Saturdays (in-line with the existing parking provision on the High Street). A separate visitor parking scheme is being considered in the Housing managed car park in Gardner Close.
Can I request that my road is also included?
We are mindful that if new permit controls are introduced into some roads, this may result in parking being displaced into any adjacent roads that are left uncontrolled. Where residents living in any adjacent roads have this concern, they may request that their road is also included into the proposals.
Requests should be made through a petition signed by local residents as this shows that the request is locally supported. Further information and guidance on petitions is available online at: www.redbridge.gov.uk/about-the-council/petitions
How much do permits cost?
The cost of a parking permit for residents in Redbridge is among the lowest in London and Essex. The annual cost of the first Resident Permit is £37.50, a second Resident Permit is £175 and any further Resident Permits cost £290. Residents may also purchase a book containing 10 daily Visitor Permits at £15. Further information on parking permits and prices can be viewed online at: www.redbridge.gov.uk/parking
What happens next?
As part of a continued consultation process, we are now inviting any final objections or other representations to these proposals. In addition to the information provided on this webpage, letters have also been delivered to local properties and a notice setting out these proposals has been advertised in the local newspaper and displayed in each of the proposed roads.
It is important to note, a final decision has not yet been made on which roads will be protected by new permit parking controls. Any objections or other representations that are received will be fully considered and this may result in changes being made to these proposals.
If you would like to make any objections or representations, these must be made in writing, specifying the grounds on which they are being made and be submitted using one of the following options:
- Online: Please take the survey below on this page; OR
- Email to: parking.schemes@redbridge.gov.uk ; OR
- Post to: Parking Design, 2nd Floor, Lynton House, 255-259 High Road, Ilford, Essex, IG1 1NY
Any objections or representations that are received will be fully considered and reported for a final decision. We will write to you again once the final outcome is known.
