Redbridge is reaching new heights - the biggest climbing centre in the south of England is coming to the borough
Redbridge Climbing Centre will provide families and local people with a new leisure facility to enjoy in the heart of the borough. The plan is for the climbing centre to be built within the Ley Street Depot, in Ilford.
Councillor Kam Rai, Leader of the council said “Our borough is a great place to live, work, and visit, and we’re continuing to invest in leisure facilities so local families and visitors can access everything they need right on our doorstep.
The new climbing centre will provide a fun, and social place for people to exercise and boost our local economy. As well as a climbing section, there will be a café and gym which will make it a hub for our local communities to meet, exercise and enjoy.
Investment in infrastructure like the climbing centre not only provides high quality activities in our borough and opportunity for every local person, but also creates local jobs and generates vital income that is reinvested into the services the council provides."
Unsure about whether climbing is for you?
People might worry about whether their fitness, age, height or ability could prevent them from participating in climbing. However, climbing can actually be enjoyed by everyone, even if you’ve never tried it before.
