School Street at Mossford Green Primary School

Redbridge Council is proposing to introduce a School Street at Mossford Green Primary School to assist in delivering a greener, safer and healthier borough. The School Street scheme prevents non-exempt vehicles from entering the School Street zone around the school, during school start and finish times.

Provide your views on a School Street at Mossford Green Primary School by completing the short survey below by 21 October 2024.

At Mossford Green Primary School, the School Street would be in effect from 8 - 9.15am and 2.30 - 4pm Monday through Friday during school term. The map below shows the streets that would be included in the School Street in yellow. These streets include:

  • Waterloo Road
  • Fairlop Road
  • Sydney Road

If the proposal is implemented then residents and businesses on these roads can apply for a free vehicle exemption from the council.

Benefits of School Streets

School Streets aim to reduce levels of air pollution around our schools, making the air children breathe cleaner. They protect children from traffic hazards at the school gate, preventing accidents and keeping children safe.

At present, 78% of Mossford Green Primary students live within 1 mile of the school. A School Street can help encourage students and families to walk and cycle to school, which improves health and fitness.

We currently have 21 schools participating in School Streets in the borough of Redbridge. Results of this scheme at other schools have shown that they are successful at reducing traffic around school areas, thus making the area safer and encouraging students to walk and cycle to school. The School Streets scheme has been developed off the back of the Child Friendly Redbridge programme, which started in 2019. Redbridge Council is currently working with UNICEF UK to become a recognised Child Friendly City or Community.
