The Council is proposing to introduce road safety improvements on Longwood Gardens.
What are we proposing?
We are proposing to install traffic calming in the form of raised speed tables and raised junction tables as well as a new zebra crossing on Longwood Gardens as shown on the attached Plan No. 2025-E-015. The measures proposed are:
New zebra crossing on a raised speed table at the north entrance to Clayhall Park (near Abbotswood Gardens);
New raised junction table at the junction with Queenborough Gardens;
New raised junction table at the junction with Beattyville Gardens;
New raised speed table at existing pelican crossing on Longwood Parade (near Rushden Gardens);
New raised speed table at existing pedestrian crossing near cemetery entrance (near Oakleafe Gardens).
The Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Services and London Buses have been consulted on the proposals.
Why make changes?
The main objective of the proposed scheme is to make this area safer for all road users. The road safety measures will help reduce vehicular speeds, improve driver awareness, improve crossing conditions for pedestrians and improve road safety in the area.
Lowering traffic speeds also makes our streets less polluted, and better and safer places to walk and cycle.
There have been nine personal injury collisions in the last three years for which data is available on Longwood Gardens.
