Redbridge Council is installing a Little Free Library outside of Ilford Station!
Want to Contribute to the Design of the Little Free Library? We want to design the library based on books and stories that you love- fill out this form to tell us your favourite books and stories that you’d want to see represented on it!
For those more artistically inclined, we invite you to draw a picture (or any other art format) representing your favourite book or story to inspire the design of the Little Free Library. If you want to submit an image or art piece, please email littlefreelibraryih@redbridge.gov.uk with your ideas.
The period to submit books, images, or other design ideas will close on Monday, June 8th, 2026.
What is a Little Free Library?
Little Free Libraries are a global initiative to promote literacy and community. A Little Free Library is a small cabinet in a public space filled with books; anyone can bring books to place inside and anyone can take books from it. It is not an exact exchange, you can take a book if you do not have one to put inside. If you don't have many books of your own to put inside, we especially encourage you to take from the library. There is currently a Little Free Library outside of the Engagement Hub on Ilford Lane.
What Books Go Inside?
Nearly any kind of book is appropriate. That includes books at all genres and reading levels, and across all ages- we hope that this Little Free Library will have books for children and adults and will have something of interest for everyone. We welcome books in any languages and books that are primarily art-based, like graphic novels or children’s picture books. We will not monitor content of the books placed inside, but we do ask that books whose explicit purpose is to promote any religious belief or ideology is not included. We also ask that comics or pamphlets are not placed inside as they can easily become ripped or damaged. All else is welcome.
Who Will Manage the Little Free Library?
It could be you! While Redbridge Council is funding and installing the Little Free Library, we are actively looking for someone who would like to look after it. Our hope is that in time it will become managed by community members. If you, your family, your community group, school, or any other body are interested in taking responsibility for the Little Free Library (or just want to learn about what that might entail), please contact littlefreelibraryih@redbridge.gov.uk.
This project is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
