Preparation work continues ahead of DfT funding decision
Work to prepare for the replacement of Broadmead Road Bridge is continuing while we await a decision from the Department for Transport on our Structures Fund bid. We are using this time to make sure we are ready to move forward as quickly as possible if funding is secured, while also considering our next steps under different funding scenarios.
Replacing the bridge remains a major infrastructure project and, even with funding in place, there are still important stages of planning, procurement and preparation to complete before construction can begin.
We have continued working with allotment holders at Horn Lane to support those who will need to relocate as part of the project and to ensure the site can be accessed safely for future works.
The closure of Broadmead Road Bridge continues to affect local journeys and put pressure on surrounding roads and transport links. That's why we are doing everything we can behind the scenes to be ready to progress the project at the earliest opportunity and respond quickly once a decision on our bid is made.
We hope to hear the outcome soon and will update residents as soon as we have further news. Thank you to local residents and everyone affected by the closure for their continued patience and support.
