Redbridge Council submits information and makes case for funding
The Council has responded in full to the Department for Transport’s request for information in relation to its 2025 Structures Fund, which was established to support the repair of highway structures currently operating under vehicle restrictions.
In its submission, the Council set out a strong case for investment in the primary option approved by Cabinet in July 2025: replacing the bridge span over the Central Line and reinforcing the existing approach ramps and walls. To support this, the Council will also provide further detailed information packs to relevant government departments.
Securing external funding is essential, as the scale of works required means the Council cannot meet the cost of repairs from its own budget, particularly given the sustained financial pressures facing local authorities nationally.
Alongside the Structures Fund bid, the Council is exploring additional funding streams and preparing the necessary documents and business cases to progress the project to its next stages. Redbridge continues to be recognised as one of the best‑performing councils in the country - including being ranked in the top ten by IMPOWER for overall productivity, which underscores both its strong financial management and its commitment to securing the best possible funding settlement from government.
