Our team of officers will be processing a large volume of applications, so please be patient with us during this time. We will be in contact with you as soon as possible.
You are responsible for ensuring your application is completed and submitted. The council will not complete any application for you. If you are unable to complete the application you can ask family, friends, support worker or neighbours for assistance.
Waiting times for social housing in Redbridge are incredibly long because there are far more people in need than there is available housing stock. We can estimate waiting times by looking at how long people who have recently been re-housed have had to wait.
See the table below for guidelines depending on household need. Please bear in mind; because more people join the housing register each year than we're able to re-house, if you are joining the housing register now, your expected waiting time is likely to be longer than those currently quoted.
| Studio | 1 Bed | 2 Bed | 3 Bed | 4 Bed | 5 Bed |
2024/2025 | 4 years 4 months | 5 years 9 months | 7 years 8 months | 18 years 2 months | 21 years | 16 years 7 months |
2023/2024 | 6 years 3 months | 6 years 1 month | 10 years 4 months | 15 years 7 months | No lets | No lets |
Why are these changes happening?
These changes are being made following recent consultation on the housing allocation scheme whereby Redbridge Council asked you to share your views. Consultation is now complete. The allocations policy has been approved by cabinet members and can be found under Key Documents.
This scheme informs how we allocate housing both in and out of the borough and prioritises the people on the housing register.
The new housing allocations scheme:
- Sets out clearly how we allocate and let social housing in the borough
- Ensures decisions are made fairly and with clear reasons
- Makes it easier to understand the eligibility criteria, who qualifies, and who we cannot house
- Improves the way we prioritise people. This is especially important given the high demand for the few properties that are available to let each year
- Makes sure we comply with recent legislation and good practice.
