Yellow Box Junctions (2026)

To understand how traffic currently behaves, traffic surveys have been held at junctions across the borough. The data shows that 14 junctions were commonly obstructed during the daytime (from 7am to 7pm) over one week.

In response to this data, new yellow box markings are now proposed at the following junctions in order to improve travel conditions for residents and other road users:

1. Blake Hall Road / Tennyson Avenue
2. Chigwell Road / Retail Service Road (opposite Roding Lane North)
3. Cranbrook Road / Headley Approach
4. Cranbrook Road / Service Road (leading to Iceland)(Gants Hill)
5. Green Lane / Granton Road
6. Green Lane / Hazeldene Road
7. Green Lane / St Marys Road
8. High Road Woodford / Chelmsford Road
9. High Road Woodford / St Albans Road
10. Horns Road / Retail Service Road (leading to B&M, Aldi, Pets at Home)
11. Loxford Lane / Clark Grove
12. New Wanstead / Homesdale Close
13. Redbridge Lane East / Margaret Way
14. Roding Lane South / Avondale Crescent

Benefits of a new Yellow Box marking

Yellow box markings are designed to keep junctions clear, prevent congestion and keep traffic moving. This simple measure can make a big positive difference. Some of the benefits of yellow boxes include:

1. making it easier for traffic to turn in and out of side roads
2. reducing queuing and delays behind vehicles waiting to turn
3. improving access for emergency response vehicles, waste collections and other large turning vehicles
4. improving overall journey times for everyone – including local residents making regular daily trips
5. improving road safety through better sightlines, making it easier for drivers and cyclists to emerge
6. making pedestrians more visible when crossing the road
