Ley Street (north): Proposed Red Route Extension

The Council is reviewing parking controls on Ley Street (by the junction with the A12) to ensure this road remain accessible for all users. Concerns have been raised that parking in this area obstructs the flow of traffic.

We are therefore proposing an extension of the existing Red Route (currently in operation on the A12) further along Ley Street. The plan in this leaflet provides an overview of these proposals.

PROPOSED RED LINES (DOUBLE OR SINGLE)

New red lines (no stopping restrictions) are proposed in your area to help maintain and improve the free flow of traffic. Double red lines operate at all times. They are mainly proposed in busy or narrow parts of a road or where there is a particular road safety need.

Single red lines would only operate for part of the day, from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Sunday. Parking would be allowed on single red lines outside of their times of operation.

On double or single red lines (during the controlled times), vehicles would be prohibited from stopping unless in an emergency. Exemptions would apply for licenced taxis, for recognised companies delivering or collecting postal items, or vehicles displaying a blue badge when they are picking up or setting down passengers.
