Thank you to those residents that responded to our earlier parking consultation. This showed that the majority of respondents supported new permit parking controls being introduced into the roads shown in the plan available on this webpage. This would create a new South Woodford C (SWC) permit parking zone.

Due to the support received from respondents, we are now holding this further consultation to invite any objections or other representations prior to a final decision being made.

Can I request further roads are included?

We are mindful that if new permit controls are introduced into some roads, this may result in parking being displaced into any adjacent roads that are left uncontrolled. We have therefore sent a copy of the consultation leaflet to residents living in the surrounding area to help raise awareness.

Any requests for further roads to be added to the proposed permit scheme should be made through a petition signed by local residents as this shows that the request is locally supported. Further information and guidance on petitions is available online at: www.redbridge.gov.uk/about-the-council/petitions(External link)

How does permit parking work?

Only those that live or work inside the controlled area would be eligible to apply for permits. A permit can be used to park in any of the permit controlled roads in the zone that the permit was issued for.

Signs would be displayed at all entry points into the new South Woodford C permit parking area to indicate that parking is for local permit holders only during the controlled times. Smaller parking signs would be displayed throughout the permit parking area as a reminder to drivers.

The plan available on this webpage provides an overview of where these new parking controls would apply.

Parking in residential roads would mainly be protected for Resident permit holders and their visitors (when displaying a valid Visitor permit).

Shared use parking bays would be provided throughout the area to accommodate parking by Business permit holders as well as Resident permit holders. These shared use bays would also allow parking by those that book a parking session using the pay by phone facility, with one hour of parking FREE (up to 2 hours of parking would be available for a fee).

All existing double yellows lines would remain and further double yellow lines would be provided in some locations on road safety and accessibility grounds.

You would not need to display a permit when parked on your driveway or when parked on any other private land.

Drivers must be mindful when parking on the footway (where this is allowed) not to obstruct the back of the footway and ensure that enough space remains for a wheelchair user.

When would parking controls apply?

It has been agreed that new permit parking controls should apply from 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday (the same as other nearby permit parking zones). This was the most supported option by respondents to the consultation.

Outside of these operating days and times, anyone may park in the permit parking area without displaying a permit.

How much do permits cost?

The annual cost of a parking permit for residents in Redbridge is among the lowest in London and Essex. Residents can benefit from easier parking for less than 7p a day.
